Private focused PDF editor
Add page numbers to selected PDF pages while the document stays in your browser. Choose Arabic, Roman, letter, Page 1, or 1 / 10 formats; position the sequence on mixed page sizes; skip a cover if needed; then download a validated PDF. Existing signatures can be invalidated, and specialized forms, scripts, portfolios, or viewer-specific features may need review.
Preview five numbering formats on mixed-size and rotated pages, then create the output entirely in this browser.
PDF and font bytes stay on this device
PdfEditorOnlineFree opens the source, loads a bundled font, renders page previews, writes one text object per numbered page, saves, and reopens the output for checks on this device. Your original file remains unchanged.
How to number a PDF
The default is Arabic at bottom center, starting with 1 in 10 pt regular dark gray. Cover-page skipping is off until you choose it.
Choose or drop a document and inspect mixed-page previews of each visible page area.
Use Arabic, lowercase Roman, uppercase letters, Page 1, or page-and-total numbering.
Pick top left through bottom right, start value, cover skip, regular or bold, size, and color.
The saved PDF is reopened and checked for geometry, annotations, numbering objects, and its embedded font.
Placement is measured inside each visible page area and transformed through its page rotation, so portrait, landscape, rotated, and mixed-size pages match the live preview.
A skipped first page receives no numbering object. The next physical page starts at your chosen value, and page-total format counts only numbered pages.
Regular and bold TrueType fonts are bundled locally and embedded into the PDF output. No operating-system font or remote download is required.
Frequently asked questions
No upload occurs. The source PDF, bundled font, rendered previews, new page numbers, validation, and downloadable result stay in this browser tab.
Yes. Enable Skip first page as cover. Page 1 remains untouched and page 2 receives your configured starting number.
The denominator counts numbered pages. If a ten-page file skips its cover, the first visible number is 1 / 9 on physical page 2.
Yes. PdfEditorOnlineFree embeds OFL-licensed Noto Sans Regular or Bold into the output, so page numbers do not depend on a remote or system font.
Start numbers must be canonical positive integers. Roman sequences stop at 3999. Adding visible page numbers can invalidate cryptographic signatures, so review signed or specialized PDFs after download.
Correct orientation or visible page geometry before applying a consistent sequence.
